L.J. Smith offers several epoxy kits and accessories for installing our ornamental iron collection of balusters and newels. These kits feature handy adhesive cartridges to easily and neatly secure our iron balusters and newels to wooden surfaces. Choose from the contractor options for larger projects or the job-lot kits for those that are smaller.
Our iron baluster and newel installation instructions provide step-by-step details for using these epoxy kits for professional results every time!
Did you know that L.J. Smith has been quoting custom stairway components for decades? Aside from our standard wood species of red oak, poplar, beech, cherry, maple, hemlock, walnut, mahogany, hickory and white oak, we also quote specialty woods such as Brazilian cherry, African mahogany, knotty pine, heart pine, yellow pine, clear pine, bamboo, fir, lyptus, Australian cypress, Brazilian walnut, Brazilian teak, cedar, white birch, ash, quartersawn red or white oak and rift sawn red oak. Custom quote requests have come in for nearly all of our offered product categories: newels, balusters, handrail, handrail fittings, starting steps, treads & risers and other miscellaneous items.
Here are some of our custom capabilities:
- Different square sizes for turning
- Rope style turned newels and balusters
- Custom fitting angles
- Unique handrail and fitting profiles
- Winder treads
- Custom treads, risers & landing tread
- Stacked starting steps

Building a Conect-A-Kit® Landing Fitting Assembly (gooseneck) requires a Rail Drop (LJ-7_RD). Our Rail Drops are already mitered and drilled, but if you don’t have a Rail Drop or don’t want to spend the money on one, straight lineal rail can be used.
